Photography is amazing. It can allow us to be artistic and creative, to document moments in time and to freeze action. It allows us to produce beautiful wall art of our pets, to capture family relatives all together and to document a daughter competing at her first show jumping event.
With a basic understanding of our camera we can take great photos. Photography is as much about knowing how to take control of our camera as it is about working with our environment, and doesn’t need to be overly complicated.
I enjoy keeping my lessons informal and focusing on the areas you wish to improve on. Creating practical tasks and experimenting allows us to put theory in practice and gain experience of what works best for the shots you want to take.
Whether this be the fact you always shoot on the ‘Auto’ settings (sports, macro etc) or you understand manual settings but want to get more creativity into your photography, I can help through a range of tasks and discussions.
Looking to take your photography to the next level? I am more than happy to discuss how I turned pro, the ways I promote myself, the ups and downs of being a professional and how you could do the same. Photography is an amazing career to have, but a bit of guidance in the early days can go a long way!
Run a group that would like to have a group lesson? I am available to come to you and discuss photography to a group of people. These workshops can be run like my normal workshops or they can focus on more specific areas of photography, such as photographing flowers if you are a Horticultural group.
If you have any queries or would like to discuss having a lesson or coming to a workshop please do get in touch via the ‘Contact’ page.

“An Introduction To Photographing Horses” Afternoon Workshops
During these informal afternoon workshops, we will discuss all the basic workings of cameras, put theory into practice with some easy to understand tasks, and head to the outdoor school to spend an hour photographing a horse and rider in action. We will discuss different scenarios so that whatever situation you find yourself in you can get the photos of horses that you want.
Back in April 2013 I was featured in PhotoPlus magazine when I helped Rebecca improve her equine photography skills. The ten-page feature covered everything from posing horse and rider for a portrait, flatwork and jumping photos, along with the camera settings I use. During our afternoon together, we will put all of these skills into action.
“An Introduction to Photography” Afternoon & Evening Workshops
My ‘Introduction to Photography’ workshop is an afternoon and evening workshop which mixes practical tasks, teaching using easy to understand words, and some one-to-one tutorial so you can get the most from your camera.
While I cannot teach you everything there is to know, through some guidance and my information booklet you will be able to go away with a greater understanding and confidence to experiment with your camera.
One-to-one lessons are a brilliant way to work on your specific needs so you can better understand your camera and get the shots you want. Whether you require help photographing your daughter jumping, taking family photos, or simply understanding the settings on your camera, I can assist you to improve your skills.
During a lesson we can:
- Use my ‘Understanding Photography’ booklet to improve your camera knowledge, discussing everything from ISO, rules of thirds and manual settings.
- Go through photographs you have taken so I can give them a constructive critique on how to improve them.
- Set up a series of tasks so you can experiment and gain experience, focusing on your chosen areas or types of photography.
- Set up tasks on your own laptop or computer in programs such as Photoshop and Lightroom so you can learn, experiment and practice editing photographs.
- Chat about cameras, lenses, memory cards and the other essential equipment you may need to progress with your photography.
“I just wanted to thank you again for another interesting and informative workshop. Your training was aimed at just the right level for me, with helpful hints and tips I had not even considered. The afternoon went very quickly and we covered so much. I look forward to practicing as soon as I can.”
